Hundreds march to save London’s NHS

People marched in droves protesting to defend London’s NHS on May 18, 2012.

The demonstration brought together activists, national unions and political parties, protesting against the expectant closure of nine accident and emergency departments across the capital which could put peoples’ lives at risk.

To date tens of thousands have protested on London streets to save their local hospitals. 80,000 signed a petition against the closures in North West London and 25,000 have joined the demonstration to defend Lewisham hospital.

Cllr Patrick Vernon said: “It was great marching to the Department of Health and Parliament with the Brent Labour Party, Brent Trade Council , Brent Fight Back, UNISON, GMB trade union members and activist to raise our concerns regarding the biggest threat to accident and emergency departments, maternity units and in-hospital care for over generation in London.”
