WomanzVue Book Launch & Fundraiser

On Friday, 12th December 2025, the Caribbean diaspora in London will gather for an evening of powerful storytelling and heartfelt solidarity at the WomanzVue Book Launch & Fundraising Event for Jamaica Hurricane Relief. Hosted at the historic Karibu Centre in Brixton, this event brings together authors, creatives, community builders, and supporters to raise urgent funds for those affected by Hurricane Melissa.

A Night Led by Voices of Strength and Heritage

Hosted by Dr. Velma McClymont, the evening promises an immersive celebration of Caribbean literature, culture, and resilience. Dr. McClymont’s newest book, Sentimental Journey and Other Stories, anchors the night, each story echoing themes of identity, justice, migration, and the lived experiences of Caribbean people.

Joining her are distinguished guests and community icons:

  • Prof. Tony Leiba

  • Paulette Lewis

  • Dirg AAAB-Richards

  • Olga Mathews

  • Johnny Orlando

  • Dr. Sandra Agard

  • Lloyd Coxsone

Together, these voices represent decades of cultural leadership, activism, scholarship, and creative excellence. Their presence honours both the literary celebration and the urgent humanitarian cause.

Why This Event Matters

Hurricane Melissa devastated communities across Jamaica damaging homes, uprooting families, and destroying vital infrastructure. Relief and long-term recovery require collective effort, and the diaspora has been at the forefront of mobilising support.

This event is not just a book launch, it’s a lifeline.
Each £15 ticket includes one free copy of Sentimental Journey and Other Stories, and all proceeds will support trusted organisations working on the ground in Jamaica.

What to Expect on the Night

  • Book readings & author conversations
  •  Cultural reflections and community dialogue
  • Fundraising activities and donation opportunities
  • Networking with Caribbean creatives, elders, and leaders
  • A warm, welcoming environment grounded in unity, healing, and purpose

The Karibu Centre long recognised for its connection to Black British history provides the perfect setting for an evening dedicated to cultural pride and collective action.
