About the event:
On Saturday 5 July 2025, community members, health professionals, researchers, and advocates will come together at the Grand Union Community Hub in Wembley for the official launch of two vital initiatives:The C-Word Project and the Chalkhill Community Radio Research Project.
Led by Kojo Baiden, this event marks a transformative step in addressing health inequalities within African Caribbean communities by creating safe spaces for honest dialogue and using the power of storytelling to spark change.
About the C-Word Project:
The C-word project provides the opportunity for the African Caribbean community to connect in a safe culturally sensitive space to discuss how cancer impacts individuals and families.
About the Chalkhill Community Radio Research Project:
The Chalkhill Community Radio Research Project is focused on Stronger Community engagement in health issues addressing inequality through dialogue and storytelling on the airwaves.
What to expect:
The event will begin with opening remarks and project introductions, followed by presentations from Professor Patrick Vernon OBE, Kristine Wellington, and Errol McKellar.
Health experts Dr Jonathan Noel, Dr John James OBE, and Dr John Liquorish will offer clinical insights, alongside contributions from Brent Public Health, Cancer Black Care, Millian Market, Mane Culture, and Macmillan.
Attendees can also enjoy community stalls, networking, and light refreshments. Hosted by Ya Gurl Blaze with music from DJ Piper, the event promises connection, inspiration, and meaningful dialogue.
