Patrick Vernon OBE and Yansie Rolston’s discussion on Black Grief and Healing

Join editors Patrick Vernon OBE and Yansie Rolston for an insightful discussion on their anthology, Black Grief and Healing. This powerful collection explores how loss impacts the Black community, highlighting not only the personal grief of losing loved ones but also the collective mourning of systemic inequalities, racial injustice, and ongoing oppression.

Through stories and poems, the book addresses the emotional weight of events like the Grenfell Tower fire, the COVID-19 pandemic, and systemic health disparities, showing how adversity shapes grief. Contributors reflect on the challenges of mourning in such circumstances while also exploring sources of strength – spiritual, personal, and communal.

Black Grief and Healing – The Anthology

This anthology explores how loss uniquely impacts the Black community, shaped by systemic inequalities, racial prejudices, and a lack of understanding of traditional rituals and beliefs. It highlights collective grief from events like the pandemic, the Grenfell Tower fire, and health disparities, experienced both individually and globally. Contributors share challenges such as grieving under threats of deportation and ongoing adversity while also examining sources of strength, from personal and spiritual practices to community activism. These stories offer essential insights into often-overlooked experiences of loss and resilience.
