Humanitarian Visas For Jamaicans impacted by Hurricane Melissa
Humanitarian Visas For Jamaicans impacted by Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa has left a devastating mark on Jamaica, displacing families, destroying homes, and leaving children and the elderly especially vulnerable. As communities struggle to rebuild, one urgent question remains: who will ensure they are not forgotten?
A growing coalition of organisations is calling on the UK Government to establish Humanitarian Visa pathways for Jamaicans affected by the disaster, particularly those with close family members already living in the United Kingdom. With King Charles still serving as Jamaica’s Head of State and the deep historical ties between both nations, campaigners argue that the UK has both a moral and constitutional responsibility to act.
Britain opened its doors through Homes for Ukraine. Now, advocates say, it must show the same compassion to Jamaica.
How You Can Help
Supporters are urging the public to take three simple steps:
-
Write to your MP, asking them to raise this issue in Parliament.
-
Contact the Home Secretary or Foreign Secretary, urging them to establish a humanitarian visa route.
-
Share the petition widely on social media using #VisasForJamaica, #ClimateJustice, and #VisasForJamaicans.
Every action helps amplify the call for safety and dignity for those whose lives have been uprooted.
This campaign is supported by Hope For All, Liverpool Advocate for Windrush, WD Legal, Preston Windrush, JamRadio, Christian Gold House Ministry International, and Justice For Windrush Generations, all united in ensuring Jamaicans are not left behind in the wake of climate disaster.
