Patrick Vernon Featured by The Black Curriculum

The Black Curriculum recently highlighted the work and legacy of Patrick Vernon OBE recognising his long-standing commitment to Black British history, Windrush justice, and racial equity in the UK. The acknowledgement reflects the wide impact of his campaigns, community work, and public advocacy over the last two decades.

Their spotlight emphasised Vernon’s role in making Windrush Day official, a national moment honouring Caribbean migrants who helped rebuild post-war Britain. It also celebrated his co-creation of 100 Great Black Britons, a landmark project that challenged historical erasure and pushed Black voices into the centre of Britain’s cultural narrative.

The Black Curriculum’s recognition also highlighted his contribution to health equity, where he has fought to close racial gaps in mental health and healthcare access through roles at MIND, the NHS, and other organisations. His work supporting individuals in tracing their ancestry and reconnecting with African roots, something he undertook personally through his own journey to Senegal was also noted.
