We are seeking to appoint up to seven exceptional individuals to support the work of HSIB by ensuring the public perspective is as integral as possible to HSIB’s strategy and plans.

The Chair of the Citizens’ Partnership, Patrick Vernon OBE, is leading the appointment of up to 7 members. Members will strive to represent unheard voices and bring specific expertise and experience including lived experience to add value to the work of HSIB. They will demonstrate and promote practical and flexible involvement with the public ensuring that HSIB’s work and products have greater focus and relevance for the people most affected by its recommendations.

The Citizens’ Partnership will be impartial, providing an independent view of the work of HSIB that is external to the day-to-day running of HSIB. It will focus on raising public awareness of HSIB’s work, co-designing and providing feedback on products as well as supporting specific workstreams as required.

The members of the Citizens’ Partnership will support the Chair and any future Board to build understanding with the public of HSIB’s sensitive work, while undertaking active collaboration with different parts of the organisation where their expertise and experience, or lived experience supports its investigations and initiatives. Members report to the Chair of the Citizens’ Partnership who is accountable to the Chief Investigator and is a member of the HSIB Advisory Pane.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in patient and public involvement within an organisation or committee. Experience at a national or regional level would be advantageous. Candidates must be able to demonstrate independence and objectivity and commitment to the Nolan Principles of public life and the values of the NHS. The time commitment for this remunerated role is up to two days per month on average.
