Saturday April 4th, 2026- the African Caribbean Community Initiative

On Saturday, April 4th, the African Caribbean Community Initiative (ACCI) hosted a truly memorable fundraising evening at the Wolverhampton Racecourse and Conference Centre. The Rum and Reggae Race Course Meet brought together community members, supporters, and friends for a night that was as vibrant as it was meaningful.

While the atmosphere carried the warmth and energy of celebration, with music, connection, and shared joy, there was also a deeper, more reflective layer to the evening.

More Than Just a Fundraiser

At its heart, the event went beyond raising funds. It became a space to honour stories, recognise contributions, and remember those who have shaped the community in lasting ways.

Several races throughout the evening were dedicated to former staff members, service users, and carers who are no longer with us. These moments of tribute added a profound sense of purpose, reminding everyone present that the work of ACCI is built on real lives, relationships, and legacies.

A Tribute That Stood Out

One of the most moving moments of the night was the Apprentice Handicap Stakes (Class 6), held in remembrance of Dr. Aggrey Burke.

His legacy rooted in advocacy, mental health awareness, and a lifelong commitment to justice, continues to resonate deeply within the community. The race served as a powerful and fitting tribute, honouring not just his work, but the impact he had on countless lives.

The Power of Community

Events like this highlight something essential: fundraising is never just about financial support. It is about people.

It’s about coming together to celebrate progress, reflect on shared histories, and reinforce the sense of community that drives meaningful change. It’s about remembering why the work matters—and who it is for.

The evening at Wolverhampton Racecourse captured this beautifully, blending joy with remembrance in a way that felt both authentic and deeply moving.

A Collective Effort

The success of the night is a testament to everyone involved from organisers and volunteers to attendees and supporters. Their efforts created an experience that was not only enjoyable but also rich with intention and meaning.

As the night came to a close, one thing was clear: this was more than an event. It was a celebration of community, a tribute to legacy, and a reminder of the power of coming together with purpose.
